ذكذكتسئµ fall blood drive August 25-28

Published August 21, 2014

In collaboration with LifeShare Blood Centers, the University of Louisiana at Monroe Medical Laboratory Science program will sponsor a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 25-28, in the Warhawk circle next to the ذكذكتسئµ Library.

“ذكذكتسئµ traditionally offers students the opportunity to give blood on campus during the fall semester,â€‌ according to Ashley White, Donor Recruiter for LifeShare Blood Centers. “It’s a long-standing 30-year tradition that has resulted in thousands of blood units for local patients and many, many lives saved.â€‌

According to LifeShare, about 1-in-7 people entering a hospital need blood. One blood donation—approximately one pint of blood—can save up to three lives.

“Giving blood is safe, simple and it saves lives,â€‌ said Phillip Thomas, director of LifeShare Blood Center in Monroe. “It is an easy way to help someone else that doesn’t require a lot of time or effort. Donating blood benefits the blood donor too. Each donor receives a total cholesterol screen among other health screenings to help them monitor their personal health and wellness.â€‌

Each donor will receive a t-shirt after donating.

LifeShare Blood Centers regularly supplies blood components to 117 medical facilities throughout Louisiana, East Texas and South Arkansas. Founded in Shreveport in 1942, it is a nonprofit community service provider governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. LifeShare is a member of America’s Blood Centers and the American Rare Donor Program, is licensed by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and accredited by AABB.
