MONROE, LA— ذكذكتسئµ School of Visual and Performing Arts Concert Choir and Chamber Singers unite to perform a Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

ج‎

VAPA’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers invite ذكذكتسئµ students, faculty, staff, and the community to the performance at Parkview Baptist Church. Admission is free.

ج‎

The music ranges from the Baroque period, including Henry Purcell (1659-95), to a modern piece arranged for choir performances using a metal bottle, electric bass, percussion, and more.

ج‎

“Several of our singers will be featured as soloists in this concert. Jenny Smith, a vocal performance major, will sing â€کOnly in Sleep,’ accompanied by the concert choir of 56 singers,â€‌ said Deborah Chandler, Ph.D., ذكذكتسئµ Director of Choral Activities. “Davonzell Moncrief, a choral music education major, will dazzle the audience singing the solo on a traditional spiritual, â€کLet Me Fly.’â€‌

ج‎

On two other songs, Mark McCleery, a local cellist, accompanies the choir. One piece also features Justin Havard, a ذكذكتسئµ music instructor and accompanist. The text “Refugeâ€‌ is by poet Sara Teasdale, set to music by artist Elaine Hagenberg.

ج‎

“Feelings of joy, fear, rage, and comfort are expressed in this song,â€‌ Chandler said.

ج‎

The second piece with cello is a movement from “Jubilate Deo,â€‌ composed by Dan Forrest.

ج‎

The concert choir will join Bayou Masterworks Chorale and Chamber Orchestra on Nov. 8 to perform the entire work.
