Patch Adams to visit ΠίΠίΚΣΖ΅ April 25
On April 25, University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy will kick off its 50-year celebration by welcoming social activist Hunter βPatch Adams.β
Personally touched by the volunteer efforts of ΠίΠίΚΣΖ΅ students following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Adams chose to speak at ΠίΠίΚΣΖ΅ and to donate all proceeds to ΠίΠίΚΣΖ΅βs Pharmacy Student Emergency Loan Fund and to the Pharmacy Student Resource Center.
Adams, a medical doctor, clown and inspiration for a major motion picture, will speak about βThe Joy of Caringβ at 6:30 p.m. in Fant-Ewing Coliseum as part of the inaugural William M. Bourn Lecture Series.
Adamsβs lecture will illustrate his firm beliefs in the healing power of laughter and love. Quality health care is defined by compassion, Dr. Bill Bourn, ΠίΠίΚΣΖ΅ director of development in pharmacy, said. βThe remarkable career of Patch Adams epitomizes this caring and compassionate stewardship of the knowledge, talents and abilities of health professionals,β he said. βIt is our hope that this program will help instill these values into every student in the health professions.β
Adams, the founder and director of the Gesundheit Institute, a medical community with a vision of bringing fun to the health care community, has devoted 30 years to changing Americaβs health care system.
Tickets, available at Indian Bank and ΠίΠίΚΣΖ΅ Athletic Ticket Office, are $10.
